Powder Gate

Prague Czech Republic Tourist Information and Vacation Guide

Prague's Old Town was once encircled by a series of 13 gates.  One of those gates, built in 1475, is called Powder Gate.

This Gothic gate was modeled on the Old Town Bridge.  When constructed, it was situated next door to the Royal Court Building.

In the 17th century, Powder Gate was used as a location to stockpile gunpowder.  This is where it gets its current name.

If you arrive in Prague by train, this historic gateway to the Old Town is a short walk from Prague's central train station.
